Apple apparently plans to launch secret space network for iPhones – Technology News, CreativeBuzz

It is undetectable that space tourism is on the wayWhen space tourism becomes mainstream, there will be some services that tourists need, and connectivity or telecommunications will be an important one. As fascinating and futuristic as it may sound, it seems that Apple had thought of this years ago and is all set to take the first step.

Globalstar, A US satellite operator recently announced that they have signed an agreement with one of the largest technology companies in the world to build a new communications network. They also said the company had also purchased 13 new satellites from them just a few months before the deal.

It is said by tech and space enthusiasts in America that the company behind these purchases is Apple, and they plan to use Globalstar to provide satellite connectivity to an iPhone they will release in the future. In 2021, Bloomberg had reported that Apple was considering adding satellite communications to its mobile devices and turning them into satellite phones. Basically, Apple wants to make satellite phones mainstream.

Globalstar has exclusive rights to electromagnetic frequencies reserved for use on Earth. That means that instead of working frequencies used in normal cellular coverage in populated areas, Globalstar’s frequencies will work in areas where there is no cellular coverage because it connects directly to a satellite, rather than the nearest tower.

While the spectrum of frequencies they operate on has not been able to generate much money for them, in theory it is very valuable as it promises the ability to link affordable cell phones seamlessly to both cell towers and satellites.

While most populated areas have reliable cellular coverage, satellite connectivity can be useful in rural areas or when traveling to distant places. Satellite operators are salivating at the opportunity to tap into the much larger terrestrial communications market, and other companies, such as AST SpaceMobile and Lynx, are working on their own plans to connect regular cell phones to satellite networks.

Most of Globalstar’s current customers are search and rescue services, first responders in the US and other people who frequently need to travel to areas where there is no cellular coverage.

Apple’s partnership with Globalstar can work in two ways. The first way this can be implemented is that Apple users can connect directly to a communications satellite when they are in areas with no cellular coverage. Second, as space tourism becomes accessible to many people, Apple can capitalize on its position as the only smartphone manufacturer capable of providing connectivity in space and on Earth.
